very wild story. is the whale like a metaphor for his life?

So it's almost a reverse metaphor for his life. I basically wanted to make a character for a while that was dead and in the afterlife as a literary device before they actually died. Jonah is in the whale in his 50s for 1 year but we are going to see his life from his 20s to 70s. It also isn't a resurrection story either. It's all about who we aren't as people. Times when we cannot live in the moment because there is no moment to live in.
